Hold On To Summer All Year Long

Are you holding your breath as we enter into August?  If you still have school aged kids, we’re having to think about the routines and schedules that smack us in the face after a weird, different, or relaxed summer.

What if we did something a little different - what if we

“Hold on to Summer All Year Long”?

What if we take the freedom that often comes with summer and extend it all year long? I also know that as moms and homemakers, we’re getting set up for the wellness of our family:

  • Spiritually

  • Mentally

  • Physically

  • Educationally

And having those tools in place can actually maximize the potential for extended freedom so we don’t feel so frazzled and out of control.

If we’re going to hold on to summer, I put together a mindset list of 7 things that will help keep the feeling alive.

  1. Maintain “vacation” mode. Take the mental breaks and schedule them in as a non negotiable, “This is when I go on vacation in my mind”. (You will need this to maintain your peace during this election cycle, not to mention the state of the world!). Ideas: family walks at night, reading a book in a special spot at night, get a sun lamp.

  2. Eat fresh fruit. Think outside of the box for sweet treats. Ideas: make popsicles, yogurt parfaits, smoothies,

  3. Figure out ways to get the good light in.  Whether it’s red light therapy, still prioritize getting outside even if you have to be bundled up, invest in a sun lamp, utilize an infrared sauna (there are places you can get a membership to avoid having to purchase a sauna yourself!

  4. Stay moving - schedule in your movement.

  5. Plan your fall and winter wardrobe. Be conscious of how your clothes affect your mood and mindset.

  6. Be diffusing your summer & citrus oils. These plants can affect your brain towards feelings of joy, abundance and can combat feelings of depression and anxiety. (Check out our Pinterest account for diffuser blends!)

  7. Disconnect, unplug, and detox from technology. Ideas: set limits on your phone for time of certain apps, journal more, keep a gratitude journal, read a book, or learn something new with your family.

Let’s create a summer movement. We can maintain the summer vibe if we set boundaries for what we let in. There’s a lot coming at us, but we need a hard stop on the attack against us and our families.
