Wellness on a Budget
Are you ready to jump into a wellness lifestyle but don’t know how to do it without breaking the bank? Have you been trying to wade in and make swaps, but still feel like you’re nervous about the budget taking a hit?
Recently, on the podcast, Kari and her assistant Ashley talk about how to do wellness on a budget.
They discussed these basic top 10 tips for saving money while investing in your health and wellness for you and your family:
Have a monthly or bimonthly budget meeting and set a budget. You can’t stick to a budget if you don’t know what it is.
Track your spending. There are apps available to help you log your receipts and spending (ex: “Every Dollar”, “Mint”, “Spending Tracker”).
Pick your non-negotiables. You cannot live a completely toxin free life and it CAN get expensive depending on the products you choose and your income/budget. Kari and Ashley agree you have to choose the top priorities for you and your family, whether that means buying specific items organic vs. all, or choosing to be more mindful of self care products and their ingredients instead of choosing the cheapest option.
Shop Wholesale. BUT! Only shop wholesale if it SAVES you money. You have to know your prices and it helps if you coordinate this tip with the next…
Cook in and meal plan. You can use Pinterest and/or social media for a variety of lunch, dinner, and snack recipes. Once you know your weekly or monthly plan, you can create your shopping list and make it the most cost effective.
Use grocery pick ups. Ashley shared how grocery pick ups and Instacart have been a lifesaver to avoid shopping with little kiddos who want to grab everything they see off the shelves. Maybe do a little experiment.. One month without grocery pick ups and one month with. See if your cost changes when you’re not in the store grabbing all the extra things you see that may trigger your impulse buys.
Plan big purchases around holiday sales to get deals and avoid shipping. Plus, if on social media check influencer accounts because sometimes they have special codes you can stack with savings.
Utilize rewards programs to your advantage - shop smart! doTERRA has one of the most generous customer reward systems for items you’re going to buy anyway. With monthly orders, you start with earning 10% back, then 20%, and then 30% back in points you can use to get products.
Research some lifestyle changes. These may take more time or energy but you have to decide what’s your commodity. Examples may include making coffee at home vs buying it out, using a menstrual cup vs. tampons, changing up how you style your hair to avoid excessive trips to the salon, doing your own nails vs. a monthly trip to the salon. None of these things are wrong, you just have to decide what’s the most important (non-negotiables!)
DIY cleaning products and use natural stuff you can buy in bulk! You likely have water, vinegar, baking soda, essential oils, etc. lying around your house. You can use these items to create less toxic cleaning products until you have a greater budget to afford pre-made items.
Feeling overwhelmed? Take a deep breath. We’re here to make the transition to a non-toxic lifestyle less stressful. It has taken both Kari and Ashley YEARS to make transitions for their own health and the wellness of their family members. It has taken intentional effort to gain knowledge and make gradual changes, with some trial and error, to get to where they are today.
