Stop Starting Over...Just Keep Going

Start over next month.

Start over Monday.

Start over in the morning.

I want you to know that you’re never truly starting over.  You’re continuing tomorrow.

Whether it’s a weight loss goal, parenting a difficult child, or pursuing your business dreams.

We get to change our mindset.

Starting over would mean we didn’t learn from what we did the first time.

We’re not starting over, we’re keeping going.  But we’re continuing with the knowledge from where we’ve been.

The Bible says “His mercies are new every morning”. (Lamentations 3:22-23) It’s not that case that with tomorrow morning life is starting over completely.  The bible doesn't say tomorrow morning, everything will be different. But it does say His Mercy will be new.

Whatever toxic thoughts you’re speaking over yourself, you get to rewrite those.  No more “I’ll do better” or “I have more self discipline”.  If it’s always just about starting over, the shame will sneak in every day.  No friend, his mercies are new every morning.

And mercy is by definition, the compassion and forgiveness shown someone, who it is within one’s power to punish or harm.

You don’t have to beg for mercy from God.  

He lavishes those mercies upon you, even when He disciplines you.  

You can look in the mirror and hear “______ (insert your name here) tomorrow is a new day, not because you’re different but because my mercies are new”. 

Here’s some homework for you: your own thoughts can be so destructive, so next time they creep in… say them out loud to yourself in the mirror.  Put your thoughts on the truth table, not feelings or emotions, but are they true and can be backed up with facts?  If not, speak truth over yourself. 

We tend to be very black and white sometimes.  If we “mess up” we just throw everything away and say we’re going to start over sometime.  It’s not helpful to keep digging a deeper hole.

When we see ourselves through the light he sees us, everything looks different. 

I hope you don’t feel like you always have to start over.  Everything that has brought you to this point has purpose and value.  

Whatever you’re struggling with in terms of moving the needle, you don’t have to start over.
